BABY DEVELOPMENT - 3 to 6 MONTHS
This age is a very social age with your baby. Your baby will enjoy interaction with you, as well as others.
You will find that your baby smiles and laughs a lot, and ‘talks’ to you by cooing. Your baby will begin to understand that their hands and feet are a part of their body.
Your baby will begin to roll from front to back/back to front from approximately four to five months onwards, and they will be able to hold an object in their hands.
When your baby hears voices, he/she will now turn in the direction of the voice.
At approximately 6 months of age, your baby understands cause and effect. Your baby may pick up objects and drop them just to watch them fall and hit the ground.
6 months of age is considered the best time to start introducing solid foods to your baby, as their digestive system has matured by this age and your baby will be able to hold head steady. Rice cereal is the recommended first food to introduce to your baby. Your baby will only start with small amounts and then gradually increase as they become used to the taste and ability to eat the solids. Check the recommended quantity to feed your baby on the packaging from the rice cereal. Once rice cereal has been accepted, offer pureed vegetables and then fruits.
